I recently bought a home in Colorado Springs, and the back yard is a big, rectangular blank slate. I really want to turn it into a very usable living space, and I have the budget to hire someone to help me design my dream backyard, and turn my dream into a reality.
I’ve never hired any sort of professional like this, however, and I am having a lot of fear about calling any businesses because I have no idea what to expect.
I’m hoping someone can tell me what to expect when I start making calls, and what the process should look like from there on out. Please feel free to talk to me like your elderly, simple aunt who doesn’t know anything about the topic at all.
I have a rough idea in mind of what I’d like the finished yard to have, but am open to suggestions by the professionals. I want xeriscaping, a small wooden deck, a larger stone/brick patio area (for a non-permanent fire feature), subdued accent lighting, maybe a small fountain/water feature, and several spots for a bench or a hammock or chairs. Also maybe a very small shed/greenhouse.
Will the company need to know my budget right off the bat? Will they draw up multiple design options for me to choose from? Should I expect to need to pay a fee for the initial consultation? Just…how does it all work?
Also, since it’s already almost June, should I expect to not actually be able to book a good company until next year?
