Staking a new tree (Weeping White Spruce)

Is this the proper way to stake a new Weeping Spruce to keep it straight? http://ift.tt/2bv1dsT

The place where we bought it suggested this method, but I worry about the string rubbing/chafing the bark. They recommended only leaving it like this for about 6 months until it has a chance to straighten out a bit. We have it tied in a few places along the trunk (mainly at parts where it was very slanted).
