I’m planning to have an area covered in flagstone to make a casual patio. It will have groundcovers in between the stones (probably mazus reptans, I have 45+ plants growing well & getting ready to move next spring). The trouble is that stone is really expensive - anywhere from $450+ for a pallet of large fieldstones or $250 or a pallet of smaller stones (normally used for walls, but fairly flat). I will need 5+ pallets because each one covers 75-110 sq feet.
Are there any ways to save money on stone? Or, are there ways to save money that I want to avoid or watch out for? I’m leery of going with the lowest bidder for anything, but I also don’t want to spend more than I need to.
